For more than 15 years, we have been developing educational materials for children living and working on the streets. However, the outbreak of the corona crisis created new needs for both young people and youth workers at lightning speed. "We then immediately set to work developing materials for children and young people to talk about the challenges they experienced during the pandemic," explains founder Arnoud Raskin. "During the development of these materials, it was very quickly clear that our new materials were not only relevant to our international partners, but could also be of great value to our children in Belgium."
Thus was born 'Coronials', an educational action game that works preventively on the mental resilience of children and young people. Using a game board with more than 80 relevant situations and 88 playing cards, families are challenged to playfully reflect and vent with the children about the consequences of the pandemic. "For months, we have been getting signals from all kinds of agencies that many of our youngsters are struggling with anxiety, depression, boredom or stress due to the measures, which have a huge impact on their lives. Moreover, for a lot of families it is not easy to face this difficult discussion with the children. The game 'Coronials' is therefore an impetus to start the conversation within the family in a fun way and put children and young people at the centre by asking what they think about the current situation."
For the production and distribution of the game, we collaborated with Jumping Turtle Games, Dreamland and Colruyt. The game is available from today on Dreamland's webshop and will be on shelves at Dreamland and Colruyt from next week.
